Biography
Weronica Ankarörn is an artist whose paintings find their primary inspiration in the landscape and history of her native Sweden. Wide-ranging in her pursuits, she has studied art and photography both in Sweden and in the US.
In 1989, after three years of building her own sailboat , she set off for a long blue water cruise, like her ancestors before her, to fulfill her strong need for adventure. She wanted to embrace the power of nature and explore new cultures and lands.
The loneliness of the desert oceans, the challenge of shifting weather, filled her heart and soul with inspiration and the wish to express something of her experiences with the world.
She continues her annual sojourns between Sweden and other destinations , including the US.
Her expressionistic paintings offer testimony to the influence of her roots, the near animistic regard for nature and almost religious reverence for the scarce and fleeting Scandinavian light, find expression in her works and offer undeniable evidence of her lineage.
The work is held in collections on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

"Since my childhood, words and images are as one for me. I use both to evoke ancient memories in search of mysteries of life. Time, existence, heritage, and belonging are themes that inspire me. Growing up by the sea and close to the polar circle, like my father and grand- father before me I have built and sailed ships in northern waters. Those times are never far from my consciousness."
