weronica ankarörn

             Weronica Ankarörn is an artist whose paintings find their primary inspiration in the landscape and history of her native Sweden. Educated initially as a photographer in Göteborg (Gothenburg), her hometown, she pursued later studies in painting in the United States. Although still actively working both as an editorial and fine art photographer, maintaining studios in Sweden and in the US, it is her expressionistic paintings which testify to the influence of her roots, as evidenced by the presence of the Göteborgskoloristerna tradition in her palette and her handling of the paint, her near-animistic regard for nature, and her almost religious reverence for the scarce and fleeting Scandinavian light.
